Atrium Health Floyd TeleStroke Case Study
Atrium Health Floyd is the leading health care system serving Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama. Atrium Health Floyd is part of Advocate Health, which is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the fifth-largest nonprofit health system in the United States, created with the combination of Atrium Health and Advocate Aurora Health. At the center of these services is Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center, a 304-bed full-service acute care hospital and regional referral center.
Atrium Health Floyd wanted to implement best practices for their current stroke flow process and improve door-to-needle (DTN) times.
Atrium Health Floyd is dedicated to excellence in stroke care and has implemented best practices to assure optimal door-to-needle time, including:
- Cart to CT
- Nurse-activated stroke alerts
- Nurse mixing and administration of thrombolytic
- Conversion to Tenecteplase
- Attention to metrics and rapid cycle improvement
Atrium Health Floyd partnered with us, TeleSpecialists, to review monthly stroke metrics to identify robust countermeasures for improvement. As a result of deploying best practices coupled with aggressive data review and follow-up, there has been a continued decrease in DTN times, with an overall 24% improvement from 2022 to 2023.
