Quality standard
Every Reader Is
Audited Every Month
Consistency is harder to demonstrate than coverage, and it is what a service line director has to defend. TeleSpecialists holds one quality standard across every reader, and it is checked on a fixed schedule.
Board certification is the entry point
Every reader is board certified in epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology before reading a single study. Pediatric studies go to pediatric-trained readers.
Random monthly peer audit
Studies are pulled at random each month and reviewed by another fellowship-trained reader. The service line director is audited on the same schedule.
Second opinions are routine
Readers share unusual tracings with each other during the shift. An atypical pattern gets a second set of eyes before the report goes out.
Our EEG readers have to be board certified in either epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology to interpret EEGs for us. Our pediatric readers have to be pediatric trained. On top of that, everyone is audited monthly, at random, by other readers who are fellowship trained. Including myself.

Questions About Quality and Coverage
How does TeleSpecialists check the quality of its EEG reads?
Every reader is audited every month. Studies are pulled at random and reviewed by another fellowship-trained reader. The service line director is audited on the same schedule as the rest of the team. Every reader must hold board certification in epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology before reading a single study.
Do the same readers cover our hospital each time?
Yes. EEG reads are handled by a small, consistent group rather than a rotating panel. Your team works with the same names over time, which is what allows direct phone contact to become routine rather than exceptional.
Should we hire a local epileptologist instead?
Hire one if you can. A local epileptologist is a good outcome, and TeleSpecialists commonly covers the hours a single physician cannot, rather than replacing that role. One physician cannot sustainably cover nights, weekends, and holidays, and the national shortage of neurologists and epileptologists means the position can stay open for a long time.
Who is accountable for the quality of a read?
A board-certified physician, in every case. TeleSpecialists is physician-owned, so clinical standards are set and enforced by physicians who read studies themselves. The EEG service line director is audited on the same monthly schedule as every other reader.
Find the Gaps in Your EEG Coverage
The EEG Coverage Assessment compares your current coverage against a round-the-clock baseline, using volumes your team already tracks. You get a written summary of where the gaps sit and which study types drive them.
